Matt's hat

This is Matt's Valentine's hat. He chose the basic pattern and colors, and designed the motif himself. He's pretty excited about it. :-)
It turned out a bit too big (I'm new at sizing), but I'll get it to shrink a little.

See the peace sign in the earflaps?

A close-up of the motif. It's Matt's initials, MWH.

The top does this cool swirly thing.

This is the pattern I followed, and we just replaced the wave with his initials.

Now I'm going to figure out how to make myself one with cherry blossoms around it. :-)

I love the hat! I would love to learn how to knit, how did you learn? Justin and I are trying to make a upholstered headboard right now...justin is way more crafty than me. ;)

Nice! I love upholstered headboards - so comfy to lean against. Well, my SIL was so enthusiastic about knitting I had to try it. My stepmom's best friend taught me how do the basics - cast on, cast off, knit stitch, and purl stitch, and I taught myself the rest using videos on knittinghelp.com and trial and error. Knitting is REALLY addictive and so relaxing. I'm going to teach Dani to knit when I get back, I could show you too. :-) I'm trying to recruit knitters so we can do a Sunday afternoon knitting group.

Thanks! Now to figure out how to CAREFULLY shrink it so it fits Matt perfectly.
