A Complaint Free World

"If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. Don't Complain." -Maya Angelou

I ran across this in a magazine and it sounds like a fascinating challenge! Go complaint-free for 21 days in a row. If you slip and complain, criticize, gossip or use sarcasm, you start the count over. The church that came up with this idea has little purple bracelets that you switch to your other wrist when you catch yourself complaining and start the count over. I ordered bracelets for Matt and I and it should be interesting to see how it affects our habits. This fits well with my New Year's resolution to think and speak positively, so I'm going to wear the dorky bracelet and do my best! Will anyone else try it with me? :-)

I did read about it in People!
It's true it's going to be really tough... they said it took one woman seven months of trying before she made it to 21 consecutive days. :-O I'm so glad you're doing it too! we can encourage each other. I talked Matt into it. Think how much more positive all our words and thoughts will be after this challenge! I'm going to start before I get my bracelet in the mail. I'll just use a different bracelet. Too impatient to wait. :-)

Do you switch the bracelet if you think negatively as well, or just speak it? Anyone can keep their mouth shut (maybe not!), but it takes a strong person to not ever think negatively. I've been working on it myself for a long time now...(bracelets kinda bother me though!).

I vote if you think negatively you have to switch it over too. Cuz I'm a sadist. : )

Yeah, I'm with you on that. It should count as complaining if you have nasty thoughts.

True, the bracelet is a bit silly but I'm going to wear it just to remind myself. It'll take a couple weeks for it to get here though, so I'm cooking up an idea to make my own that would be easy to switch back and forth and still look good. :-)
